Survival of the Fittest

They say life is difficult. There’s competition out there, in every stage of life. In the work sphere, it’s ‘survival of the fittest’ to the highest measure. Why is there so much competition? And no, it’s not because there are less jobs and more people! That in itself doesn’t make sense!! More the number of people, greater the need for people who provide services and labour; doesn’t that sound more practical?

So I say ‘Survival of the Fittest’ is subjective! Once you come into this world, you have survived, you are tough; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Then, you go on to receive “education”, only to be judged on an apparently fair, total score of 600, irrespective of what you like and what you’re good at.

After that, comes the dreaded job interview/MBA stage – which sucks some more. Not everyone wants to spend their time and money studying from books written by so called scholars. A lot of us want to try our hands at a few things till we find our calling, not have a blank resume because it shows stability!

When will we get over this competition for survival and actually do what we love, what drives us? That, which gives satisfaction throughout, not just when the cash arrives!

If you ask me, each one of us here is working towards our future and worrying about tomorrow, then that’s survival in itself! We win!

  1. Wow, I loved the way you’ve written this article. I can totally relate to it and I’m sure that there are many others who feel the same way. The line “More the number of people, greater the need for people who provide services and labour; doesn’t that sound more practical?” conveys a very practical point that most people seem to overlook. Keep up the good work Merilyn, looking forward to your next article 🙂
